CISA researchers presented the results of two different studies, on the fields of malaria and sickle cell disease respectively, at the 9th EDCTP forum, which took place in September at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.

The anti-malarial drug resistance project, “MalAngo - Malaria drug resistance: treatment alternatives and optimization – a project strengthening a national reference centre for anti-malarial clinical trials and capacity building in Angola”, presented by the researchers Cláudia Fançony and Pedro Gil, was co-financed by the Portuguese Foundation of Science and Technology/Aga Khan Foundation and by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in a partnership between the latter foundation, the João Lobo Antunes Institute of Molecular Medicine and CISA – the Health Research Centre of Angola.

The sickle cell disease project with the title of “SCAFfoldChild –Sickle Cell Anemia and Fetal Hemoglobin. Genetic modifier Angolan Children Cohort” was presented by the researchers Brígida Santos and Miguel Brito and follows financing from the FCT/Aga Khan Foundation in partnership with the Lisbon Polytechnic Institute – Higher School of Healthcare Technology and CISA.
