Article about tobacco consumption published in PLOS One

A team of CISA and ISPUP researchers have published a study in the PLOS One journal that identifies how the population in Bengo province still remains at an early phase of a possible tobacco epidemic.

This situation is currently characterised by low levels of tobacco consumption, a low number of cigarettes smoked daily alongside a low level of nicotine dependence among Angolan smokers, with these rates all higher among men. The study also portrays how people with lower levels of income and education are those with greater propensities to smoke.

According to the study’s authors, investment in awareness campaigns, taxing tobacco products and implementing tobacco control laws may all assist in combatting the forecast rise in consumption.
