The “Main causes of death in Dande, Angola: results from Verbal Autopsies of deaths occurring during 2009–2012” article has been published in BMC Public Health, an open access journal in the field of public health that pays particular attendance to the social factors of health, the environment, behaviours and the impact of healthcare policies and their practices and interventions in the community.

This article sets out to describe the main causes of death within the Dande demographic surveillance system, located in the Bengo province of Angola, spanning an area that covers around 65,500 inhabitants in approximately 19,800 households, between 2009 and 2012.

Verbal autopsies proved an important tool for the identification of the main causes of death in an area where statistics and the registration of mortalities display significant limitations.
