Nutritional study presented at the ESTSB
Zoom

CISA – the Health Centre of Angola is engaged in the project “Effectiveness of a dietary based consumption intervention on the nutritional status and micro-nutritional deficiency in children aged less than five years of age in Angola”. The study, under implementation in three neighbourhoods in Dande municipality, Caxito, Mabubas and Úcua, was presented at the Bengo School of Technical Health Training.

This project aims to bring about changes in behaviours and the adoption of healthy practices and life styles as a strategy for improving the diets of breast-feeding infants and young children. This thereby fosters the entire development potential (motor, psychological and cognitive) of those individuals directly benefitting from these interventions. This incorporates the building and tailoring of a sustainable model capable of adaptation to other regions of the country and thereby raising the healthcare standards of the population as a whole.

The project, featuring two different phases, firstly foresees the characterisation of the nutritional state and the potential micro-nutritional shortcomings as well as detailing the parental practices in effect as regards hygiene, healthcare and the diets of children aged below the age of five resident within the scope of intervention of the CISA Demographic Surveillance System.

The second phase consists of interventions aimed at dealing with those priority problems identified in the first phase and incorporates a two-year long period of supervision in order to evaluate the impact of the intervention carried out in the meanwhile.

Within the scope of the training activities planned between CISA and the Bengo School of Technical Health Training, this study was presented on 4th August in the School’s amphitheatre with the enrolment of around 30 interested parties in addition to the presence of the 120 students attending the Nursing and Clinical Analysis study programmes.
