CISA was in attendance at the 16th International Congress on Infectious Diseases that took place in Cape Town, South Africa, between April 2nd and 5th 2014.
According to the Congress organisers, over 50,000 research study summaries were submitted for consideration and with only the best accepted for inclusion.
Through a poster presentation, CISA set out the data and conclusions obtained from the "Study of the causal factors of diarrhoea in children aged under five admitted to Bengo General Hospital", carried out by CISA between September 2012 and December 2013.
Diarrhoea, alongside other infectious diseases, represents an important public health problem, especially in Africa where diarrhoea constitutes a contributory factor to the high levels of morbidity and mortality. In addition to enteric diseases, others such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and the neglected diseases also featured on the agenda of this congress.
