The Virtual Health Library (VHL) results from a technical cooperation in health project, promoted by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information - BIREME and by WHO.

The VHL aims to develop a free access and universal network of technical and scientific information resources in the health all over the internet, specially, allowing the access to Portuguese scientific content.

The Portuguese Association of Health Documentation and Information is a nonprofit association, created in February 5, 1991. It provides two very important services: the APDIS Online List that locates periodicals (journals) in Portuguese libraries (restricted access) and RBAS - Directory of Health Sciences Libraries in Portugal.
